Abstract

Geopolitika energije proučava međunarodne odnose, a povezuje geografiju, povijest, politiku i ostale društvene znanosti. Ona također proučava odnose između zemalja koje trguju energijom. Najvažnija geopolitičko energetska regija je Bliski (Srednji) istok, područje s najvećom eksploatacijom nafte na svijetu. Nedavni događaji, nazvani Arapsko proljeće, koji su počeli krajem 2011. godine, a ponegdje traju još i danas ponovno su pokrenuli nemire, prosvjede i ratove na Bliskom istoku. Ova regija postala je, od otkrića nafte 30-ih godina 20. stoljeća, područje za prevlast nad izvorima nafte. Regionalni suparnici Saudijska Arabija i Iran i njihovi globalni partneri SAD i Rusija, bore se za kontrolu nad Bliskim istokom i njegovim izvorima nafte. U ovom diplomskom radu opisana su stanja u svim energetsko-geopolitičko značajnim državama Bliskog Istoka; Iranu, Iraku, Saudijskoj Arabiji, Siriji i Jemenu. U protekle 4 godine cijene nafte drastično su pale kao posljedica povećane proizvodnje i slabe potražnje nafte. Gospodarska stagnacija Europe, porast BDP-a manji od očekivanog u Kini i Indiji, veliko povećanje proizvodnje nafte u SAD-u i odbijanje OPEC-a da smanji proizvodnju nafte neki su od razloga koji su doveli do rekordno niskih cijena sirove nafte u siječnju 2016. godine. U ovom radu detaljno su objašnjeni uzroci oscilacija cijena Brent i WTI nafte te cijena dionica nekih od najvećih svjetskih naftnih kompanija.

Abstract (english)

The geopolitics of energy studies international relations and links them to geography, energy, history, politics and other social sciences. The most important oil producing region in the world is the Middle East, which contains the biggest reserves and produces most oil in the world. Recent events, called Arab Spring, started in late 2011 with a wave of protests, riots and civil wars that expanded throughout the region in 2012. Since the discovery of oil after the World War I, this region has become the area where global powers fight for petroleum resources. Regional rivals, Saudi Arabia and Iran, and their global partners, United States and Russia, are struggling for the control of the Middle East and its oil resources. Political conditions in the rest of the Middle East energy-important countries, such as Syria, Iraq and Yemen are described in the thesis. In the past 4 years, oil prices have fallen dramatically as a result of increased production and decreased demand for oil. Economic stagnation in Europe, lower than expected economic growth in China and India, which are the primary buyers of oil from the Middle East, a large increase in oil production in the United States due to the application of hydraulic fracturing and the refusal of OPEC to reduce production all led to record low prices of crude oil in January 2016. Causes which led to changing Brent and WTI crude oil price trends as well as the price of stocks of some of the largest oil companies in the world are described in this thesis.
