Abstract

Metan je ugljikovodik i sastavni je dio prirodnog plina. Metan čini gotovo 14% antropogenih emisija stakleničkih plinova. On je po količini treći po redu staklenički plin u atmosferi, uz ugljični dioksid i vodenu paru. Od procijenjenih 6,875×106 tona ekvivalenata CO2 (MtCO2eq) globalnih emisija metana u 2010. godini, otprilike 1355 MtCO2eq (20%) nastaje zbog ispuštanja i pražnjenja cjevovoda, kompresorskih stanica ili bušotina u naftnim i plinskim sustavima. Do emisija metana također dolazi i za vrijeme proizvodnje i transporta ugljena. Također, značajan antropogeni izvor emisija metana su uzgoj stoke i poljoprivredne aktivnosti, razgradnja organskog otpada i obrade otpadnih voda. Procjenjuje se da će emisije metana iz navedenih sektora do 2020. godine porasti za čak 35%. Što se tiće utjecaja na okoliš, metan je utjecajniji staklenički plin od ugljičnog dioksida, ali je njegov životni vijek u atmosferi puno kraći (prosječno 12 godina). S obzirom da je zaštita okoliša posljednjih godina sve važniji segment u naftnoj industriji, ovoj tematici potrebno je dati veliku važnost.

Abstract (english)

Abstract: Methane (CH4) is hydrocarbon and primary component of natural gas. It is emitted during production and transport of coal, natural gas and oil. Methane (CH4) makes up nearly 14% of global greenhouse emissions. It is third most abundant greenhouse gas in atmosphere, after carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor. Of the estimated 6,875×106 CO2eq global methane emissions in 2010, approximately 1,355 MtCO2eq (20%) was released from leaks and venting in pipelines, compressor stations or wells in natural gas and oil systems. Emissions also result from livestock and other agricultural activities and from the decay of organic waste and certain wastewater treatment systems. Emissions from listed sectors are expected to increase by around 35% by 2020. Methane is a much more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2 but it remains in the atmosphere for a relatively short time (roughly 12 years). Because environmental protection has come very important part of oil and gas industry, emission mitigation options should be carefully rewieved.
