Genesis, geochemistry, provenance and comparison of upper Jurassic and Paleogene bauxites of the Istrian peninsula, Croatia

Sažetak (engleski)

During this research, different bauxite deposits are going to be analyzed to enhance the understanding of paleoclimate and paleoenvironment during emersions of this respective part of Adriatic carbonate platform (AdCP). Their respective footwall and hanging wall are going to be analyzed as well, to determine the changes in paleoclimate and paleoenvironment before and after bauxite deposition. Deposits with both phreatic and vadose bauxites were selected, as the difference between them should help understand the tectonic evolution of a broader area in which they formed. In the main focus of this research are two bauxite deposits: Minjera (Paleogene bauxites) and Rovinj-1 (late Jurassic bauxites). They differ in morphology, size, mineralogy, geochemistry and provenance. Their comparison, therefore, is going to be an useful addition to the broader understanding of the evolution in this part of the AdCP. The genesis of and especially the origin of parent material from both Jurassic and Paleogene bauxites in Istria is not yet fully explained, and is going to be analyzed and studied in detail in this research.
