Abstract

Hvatanje, korištenje i skladištenje ugljikovog dioksida (CCUS) jedna je od tehnologija koja se često povezuje s naftnom industrijom, prvenstveno u sklopu CO2-EOR projekata za povećanje iscrpka nafte. Važno je naglasiti da CCUS tehnologija koja dovodi do neto smanjenja emisija CO2 u konačnici rezultira proizvodima koji se dugoročno gotovo uopće ne raspadaju ili rezultiraju trajnim geološkim skladištenjem CO2, te na taj se način onemogućava povratak emisija u atmosferu. Implementacija ovih projekata posebno je važna jer je cilj do 2050. godine izdvojiti i skladištiti približno 5 giga tona CO₂ godišnje kako bi se globalno zagrijavanje održalo ispod 2° C. Osim EOR projekata, postoje i drugi načini kojima kompanije trajno zbrinjavaju CO2, a jedan od načina je i da se CO2 nastao preradom prirodnog plina i nafte trajno skladišti u napuštenim ležištima ugljikovodika ili dubokim slanim akviferima. Iako se u prošlosti primjena CCUS projekata uglavnom vezala za Sjevernu Ameriku, danas se 60% svih CCUS projekata u svijetu nalazi izvan Sjeverne Amerike.

Abstract (english)

Carbon capture, use and storage is one of the technologies often associated with the oil industry, primarily as a part of CO2-EOR projects in order to increase oil recovery. It is important to emphasize that the CCUS technologies which lead to net reductions of CO2 emissions result in products that do not degrade at all in the long run or in a permanent geological storage of CO2, thus preventing the return of emissions into the atmosphere. The implementation of these projects is particularly important as the goal is to isolate and store approximately 5 gigatons of CO₂ per year by 2050 in order to keep the global warming levels below 2° C. Aside from the EOR projects, there are other ways in which companies can permanently dispose of CO2: by storing it in depleted HC reservoirs or deep saline formations. Although in the past the implementation of CCUS projects was mainly related to North America, today 60% of all CCUS projects in the world are located outside of North America.
